Hailing from Brussels, Belgian four-piece BLACK MIRRORS offers a great blend of groove enthused Garage Rock, taking inspiration from the likes of Janis Joplin, Jack White, Anouk, Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age – this is pure, raw Rock-entertainment. Vocalist Marcella Di Troia impresses with her vigorous and well-trained voice, looking like a younger version or younger sister of Jex Thoth. Their eponymous first EP came out March 3rd 2017 via Napalm Records. Just a month from today, BLACK MIRROS will release their much anticipated full-length debut entitled “Look Into The Black Mirror”.

An endless amount of influences which have been ruling within the Rock music universe for decades. With songs like the funktastic “Funky Queen” and their latest uptemto track “Günther Kimmich”, BLACK MIRRORS will stand prove that they are here to stay. Furthermore they will be joining Iceland’s powerhouse trio The Vintage Caravan and German Krautrockers Wucan this fall for the 2018 Gateways Tour. After my first encounter with them was at a sold out  sweaty show at Pitcher Duesseldorf, when they opened up for Horisont und ’77 in March ’17. So it does not come as a surprise it only took me a split second to decide which band to book as a headliner for the Psychorizon anniverary last year!

Be sure to check out this awesome package at any of the dates below!

PSYCHORIZON PRESENTS – BLACK MIRRORS & ARIEZ

After last years attempt to have an awesome anniversary show, I decided to up the ante with an all new location, more time to prepare and promote the event, the coolest flyer I could possibly think of and a much more kick ass proesque attitude.

Opening the evening again will be the areas finest, ArieZ. Founded in 2013 by guitarist Michael ”Ariez Vent du Nord”, ArieZ play their own blend of Psychedelic, Heavy Blues Rock and Ritual Doom. With only two members – Michael and bassplayer Steffen – Ariez started jamming and wrote the first couple of songs. With the addition of drummer Luis and vocalist Sue Leafheart, the band was finally completed. The sound of ArieZ displays the roots and influences of all four musicians. They take inspiration from different forms of arts, the lifestyle of the 60s & 70s, mysticism, spirituality, love of nature and an altogether alternative way of life. After their live debut in 2015 at renowned Rockpalast, which is part of club Matrix in Bochum, ArieZ are slowly making their way as an up and coming underground act – a name to keep in mind!

This years headliner will be none other than Belgian Whiz Kids Black Mirrors! My first encounter was at the sold out show at Pitcher Duesseldorf, when they opened up for Horisont und ’77 in March. The are Belgium’s answer to pretty much every Rock band out there. The fuzzy four-piece offers a great blend of groove enthused Garage Rock. If Janis Joplin, Jack White, Anouk, Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age ever had the chance to breed, Black Mirrors would have been their favorite creation. Vocalist Marcella Di Troia impresses with her vigorous and well-trained voice, looking like a younger version or younger sister of Jex Thoth. Their self-titled debut EP has been released on March 3rd via Napalm Records and with songs like the funktastic “Funky Queen” a full-length record is only a matter of time. This one’s a keeper!

For the aftershow party, I myself will be hosting the night as DJ Thoth at Tales From The Crypt Party. Tickets for the concerts are available on pre sale at 16€. Feel free to RSVP via the Facebook event page. See you in November!

BLACK MIRRORS, ’77 & HORISONT – We Need More Cowbell

Early on in promoting their About Time Tour 2017, Swedish Classic Hard Rockers Horisont announced a first date as sold out. What to expect from a show in a rather tiny venue, selling out on a Saturday night to host the third day of their European leg with special guests ’77 and Black Mirrors: Nothing but one of the best live packages of early 2017, maybe the entire year.

Starting off with a slight delay of about ten minutes and a strict curfew to be done by 10pm sharp, opening act Black Mirrors enters the small stage of Pitcher – Rock’n’Roll Headquarter Düsseldorf. The Belgian four-piece offers a great blend of groove enthused Garage Rock, taking influences from Janis Joplin, Jack White, Anouk, Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age, this is pure, raw entertainment. Guitarist Pierre Lateur gives in to the power of the moment as if there was no tomorrow, laying on his back, bending his knees as much as the strings on his white stratocaster. While vocalist Marcella Di Troia impresses the audience with her vigorous and well-trained voice, looking like a younger version or younger sister of Jex Thoth. Their self-titled debut EP has been released on March 3rd via Napalm Records and with songs like the funktastic “Funky Queen” a full-length record is only a matter of time.

Won’t You Take Me To Funky Town?

With both founding members, brothers Valeta well in their 30s and their minds set somewhere in the 70s, Spanish Powerhouse ’77 saw quite a rejuvenation right after I’ve last seen them in early 2013. Adding youngsters Guillem Martinez and Andy Cobo to the lineup, the new face of the band is vivid and rough. Though Armands lead vocals seem a bit frail at first, each member delivers all the way through from the introductory part to the final tone. My personal fave “High Decibels” comes in second and as I changed my position from stage left to merch right, this proves to come in handy mid through the set, as lead guitarist LG climbs up the bar the present his entertainment skills. No need to warm up the audience for the main act with sweat literally dripping from the ceiling, ’77 take the title of their most current record literal as there is no stopping them – “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us” released 30.10.2015 via Century Media. And no need to compare this act with AC/DC during the Bon Scott era, as they rock and roll a niche entirely of their own.

On Your Knees And Play!

A century into their career, Horisont take the headlining position serious enough to choose tracks from all phases of the past ten years. Epic timelessness flows from tracks such as “Electrical” off their most recent release “About Time” (out on 03.02.2017 on Century Media) or “Writings On The Wall” & “Diamonds In Orbit”, both off “Time Warriors” (out on 27.09.2013 via Metal Blades Records). The night clearly peaks with the uptempo masterpiece “Break The Limit” from the fourth full-length “Odyssey” (out on 18.09.2015 through Rise Above Records), that has main parts of the crowd singing along with the chorus. But my personal highlights are the two beautiful bluesy pieces from their debut “Två Sidor Av Horisonten” (out on 25.09.2009 on Crusher Records) “Nightrider” and my all-time fave “The Unseen”. Needless to say that the with its current incarnation featuring vocalist Axel, guitarists Charles and David, bassist Magnus and drummer Pontus, the band is as strong as ever.

“It’s a song everyone in the band liked and we used to play it on our soundcheck. Slowly it worked itself into our set list, and now it’s going to be on our debut album as well. Back in the days lots of bands covered each other to honor the other artist, and they did it with their own touch on it. Some examples are, JIMI HENDRIX ‘All Along the Watchtower’, JANIS JOPLIN ‘Tell Mama’, ‘Summertime’ and ‘Ball and Chain’, or JOE COCKER ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’, everyone was doing it with the right reason. For us, we want to honor CHUBBY CHECKER and also bring it back to life by doing the cover version the BLUES PILLS way. Hopefully people like both versions and, yeah, it’s just a killer tune.“ – BLUES PILLS

»Blues Pills« Tracklist:
01. High Class Woman
02. Ain’t No Change

The cover art (as seen in the tour poster) was created by legendary artist Marijke Koger-Dunham (THE BEATLES, CREAM).

Commented the band: „The artwork is by the incredible artist Marijke Koger-Dunham. She painted it sometime in the late 60ies, and because we were looking for some 60ies inspired artwork, we thought “what could be better?” For us, it is a representation of the balance of life, as shown in all the symbolism of natural dualities such as darkness and light, sun and moon, life and death, etc. It shows how opposite forces are interconnected and compliment each other to form a whole. Besides that, it just looks absolutely amazing!“

2012 marks the second year of the female sound collective known as THUNDERMOTHER. Vocalist Evami Ringqvist , Guitarists Filippa Nässil & Giorgia “Jo” Carteri, Bassist Rut Karin Arvidsson and Drummer Rebecca Meiselbach seem to have come out of nowhere, as the interest surrounding THUNDERMOTHER arouse during the première at Gothenburg Rockfest in the spring of 2012 and it has escalated ever since. After two successful Tours this year, one through Italy and the other supporting DANKO JONES on the road through Sweden, the five Rock Ladies from Stockholm are about to set sail on the infamous CLOSE-UP Boat with Turbonegro and Imperial State Electric – as the first through history, unsigned Band (without neither record nor record label).

Thundermother2
Please tell us how each of you has gotten into Rock and Metal initially and how you all met.

I was 13 years old when I got into Ozzy Osbourne and Rhandy Roads guitar solos. The first rock album I ever bought tho was Rage Against The Machine with RATM. I also listened to a few riff rock songs like Highway to hell with AC/DC, and Are You Gonna Go My Way with Lenny Kravitz and also swedish bands like The Hives, The Hellacopters and Backyard Babies. When I turned 16 I started listen to Deep Purple. I went to a school to learn guitar so I was playin a lot more rock then I was listening to at that period; Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen to mention a few. It took a lot of time to realise that the best music is simple music with three chords haha;-) on that same school at that same time went Evami, our singer, but we never spoke until years later when I asked her to join Thundermother.

Did any of you ever plan to play in an All-Girl Band or is that something that just happened?

It was not a plan in the beginning but when we met Rebecca, it was definite to be an all girl band. With her passion we got motivated to find a girl bass player to be complete rockin’ , beer drinking gals. It sounds good, it looks good, it’s all good to be girls. And we write sexy lyrics about guys so It feels more natural.

How much harder is it to be taken seriously as a female musician?

A lot I would say. It’s not in people’s genes yet, I mean, not so long ago we couldn’t vote, now we play Rock’n’Roll and people turn their heads.

Thundermother2HighResolution
By now you have recorded a few songs available on your Facebook page – are you planing or working on a first album so far?

We have decided to record and release an album 2013 and we are so excited!

Let’s talk about songwriting: How does this work among the five of you, is it a democratic act or is there one dictator?

I have done a lot of riffs and songs in the beginning but the others is joining now and we arrange together in the rehearsing room. Often I have an idea at home and then Evami for example make a lyric; Sometimes via email, sometimes via jam or over a bottle of wine.

You have been touring pretty constantly in 2012, how did you get to be opening for DANKO JONES and what are your up to in the near future?

Danko and John liked us and wanted to push for us so we got to come along, a dream come true.

Release an album and tour even more!

Thundermother1HighResolution
Any plans so far for 2013 and any chance you’ll be playing in Germany sometime soon?

We sure hope so! We have plans to expand so this is the plan :)

“THUNDERMOTHER represents the ultimate combination of AC/DC and Janis Joplin” , is how you are described online. Are there other important influences you would like to mention?

Listen and hear for yourself when our album comes..;)

Is there anything else you want to tell the world, greetings, curses or cooking recipes?

We will actually be featured in a Swedish Rock band cooking book soon and there you can see how to make our Thundermother Elk in Beer Stew. Enjoy!

Thanks a lot for taking your time to answer my questions! See you soon.

Cheers, see u in Germany, soon hopefully !:)

Filippa Nässil
