The Kelly Family – 25 Years Later

Growing up as a girl in Germany, I have been exposed to music from very early on. First through my parents listening to songs on the radio, many bands I still love to this day, including Abba, Roxette, Genesis and their former drummer, turned singer with his solo-stuff, Phil Collins, Queen, Chris Rea and all the pupular eighties tunes you can imagine. But it wasn’t untill the 90s that my very own taste in music started to shape. And this famously infamous decade held a ton of trashy acts and one-hit-wonders next to those timeless pieces of pure gold that would stuck in my head and heart forever, at least they are still very much present some 20 to 30 years later. One year in particular turned out to be the most influencial for large parts of music history and my personal biography as well: 1994. Grunge was peaking and imploding almost simultanously with the suicide of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and a few days later the release of his widow Courtney Love and her bands’ Hole most successful record “Live Through This”.

Girlgroups and Boybands aside, there was another band that was the talk of the town and you could either hate or love or both back and forth, as I did or actually do, the Kelly Family. They started off as street musicians and had a respecable run of albums at hand when in 1994 “Over The Hump” marked the turning point of their career and saw me attending the first concert ever, just about three months after my 12th birthday. Fast forward to the present day and “25 Years Later” I am about to finally see them again 25 years and three days after my first time, when they played in a tent owned by the Circus Roncalli.

The band & the bus: Cover of the new album!

Since the comeback of the Kelly Family in 2017, I admited to myself something that I kept private for so long, because when you are 12 and really love and live the whole Grunge and Punk thing with a badass attitude, listening to the Kelly Family wasn’t exactly cool enough to stick to. But when you are 35 cool isn’t that important anymore and beeing true to yourself the only thing that matters. Long story short: I missed out more than I can possibly comprehend and now it’s time to make up for the past 25 years. So, will one single show really do? I guess not, so let’s see how many show I will be able to see after sharing this personal manifesto with the world. The ultimate tour starts 21 days from today and there will be a special warmup show in Emden prior to the full run of dates through Germany. So, see you on the road and onto the next 25 years!

PURSON – Another Brit Bites The Dust

Rumors have been spreading since the end of last year and the first public post, that Purson, the fancy five-piece from Britain called it quits has been posted in December 2016 by the Great Southern Brain Fart. The band has always been as vibrant as troublesome, single shows and entire tours would be cancelled, they left Lee Dorrians prestigious Rise Above Records for Finish label Spinefarm after just one full-length album and also Facebook featured some revealing posts on the members private profiles recently.

Now the band‘s leading lady, guitarist and vocalist Rosalie Cunningham announced the following statement: “The past five years have been an unforgettable whirlwind, for which I have to thank our wonderful fans around the world, the band and all the people who have contributed to Purson’s success over the years. Their support has been overwhelming, but the Purson framework has gone as far as it could go, and now it’s simply time to move on. I feel strongly drawn to a more DIY approach to my career in music, and look forward to the freedom to explore many avenues as a solo artist.”

To mark the end of the band, Purson have released one final track titled Chocolate Money featuring Comus’ Jon Seagroatt on saxophone and Vodun singer Chantelle Brown on backing vocals.

Cunningham adds: “Chocolate Money is a snapshot of the ostentatious decadence of the 70s. The mythical rock star character with his double-entendre and self-centred hedonism. The industry has become a very different world since then, which is something I will expand on lyrically with my next album. It has inspired my desire to go back to basics and remember what music is supposed to be about.”

Inhale heavy riffs, obey the witch and stare in the eternal black void of ‘Servus’! Released one week and two days ago, this is not only a good reason to take a closer look at the debut full-length of Belgian Doomsters Bathsheba, but also to celebrate my first encounter with the wonderful Michelle Nocon. ‘Servus’ much notably and rightfully has gained a massive media echo and shall pave the way for further touring efforts outside their native territory.

bathsheba-burning-moonPhoto by Burning Moon

‘Servus’ is a very spiritual album. It’s about deep feelings and experiences that are very abstract. There are other feelings like ‘saudade’ which is also very deep and hard to grasp for some people, but they are more concrete. ‘Servus’ is about things that are hardly on earth anymore. During the process of ‘Servus’ I had a lot of dialogues with myself, I went through a lot of weird things, also demonology related somehow, as the talented vocalist recalls about the progress of creating the album, which was released on February 24th, 2017 by Svart Records. And while they were only just an opening act at the joint venture of Occult Sabbath and Feverdance Rituals, it certainly will only be a matter of time till the four-piece will do a headlining tour. Being amongst those who have been chosen to appear at prestigious Roadburn Festival and sharing stages with the likes of legendary Coven & Jinx Dawson, Chelsea Wolfe, Oathbreaker, King Woman or True Widow, to name but a few, will clearly up the ante for them. If you’re not yet fully convinced of the greatness of Bathsheba and ‘Servus’, you might give yourself and the band a chance by streaming the album in its entirety via German Rock Hard Magazine!

KING WOMAN – Unveil Video For ‘Deny’ & Announce US+EU Tourdates

After previously announcing the release of their full-length debut record “Created In The Image Of Suffering”, San Francisco-based King Woman have now unveiled a first music video in advance.  Directed by Kevin Haus, the video for “Deny” was brought to life by Consequence of Sound.

Vocalist and lyricist Kristina Esfandiari comments: “With this video we aimed to paint a picture of how tormenting and exhausting it is to wrestle with your true self.” Religion plays a strong theme in the music of King Woman, but not in the “praise God, glory be to Him” sort of way. Naming their forthcoming output “Created In The Image Of Suffering” was more than just a clever turn of phrase for the Bay Area Doom Metal outfit. The record is a “catharsis for years of religious and mental torment,” as a press statement puts it, a release you can certainly feel in the album’s new single “Deny”. The song itself finds bandleader Kristina Esfandiari bewailing the facade forced on her by religion in her uniquely hazy drone. “I pray my mother/ Won’t you ever find a cure?” Esfandiari asks on the chorus. “Throw back odd pill/ Find euphoria I once knew.” Musically, “Deny” is a perfect exemplification of how Consequence of Sound’s own Andy O’Connor described the band’s sound in his 10 Most Anticipated Metal Albums of 2017 feature: “Doomy enough for those who still wish High on Fire were on the label, yet weird enough for people who only know Relapse through S U R V I V E…”

king-womanAs for the track’s video, which you can watch above, director Kevin Haus captured the song’s ethos with frightening vividness. Esfandiari describes it as revealing “the shadow aspect in Jungian psychology,” unlocking the darkness kept locked away in one’s subconscious. “In the video you see this portion of the mind surfacing and coaxing the preacher into his truest form; drawing out the aspects of himself which he loathes because it doesn’t fit in with his beliefs,” she tells Consequence of Sound. “In church, I saw others being raised with a rod in their backs, trying to fight their own carnality — buried in shame and guilt. The belief was to deny anything inside of themselves that was considered ugly or wrong, and instead attain a pristine image.”

Additionally the band will be touring the US and Europe alongside Oathbreaker, Chelsea Wolfe and True Widow throughout February, March and April.

German extreme metallers Downfall of Gaia have just announced a round of live dates for the summer! They will be joined by Australian Hope Drone! This tour marks the first tour for new guitar player Marco Mazzola.
It is always tough to replace a member of a band, particularly someone who has been with us for so many years, but Marco convinced us in every way! No big words needed for this – We are looking forward to the next chapter of Downfall of Gaia and leave the last words to Marco!

Marco: “We met in Italy, back in 2012, while I was touring with my band Caino and we opened a couple of gigs for Downfall Of Gaia. Me and Dominik stayed in contact during the following years and I immediately wrote him once I saw the announcement that the band was looking for a new guitarist. I always held Downfall Of Gaia in high regard, and I’m now honored to take part of it. I’ll do my best to keep alive what they previously built with Peter.”

Comments Downfall of Gaia: “We are very happy to announce our upcoming European tour with Hope Drone from Australia! Got to know these amazing guys in late 2015 while touring together through Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. They showed us a great time and took care of us in the best possible way and now it is about time to give something back. Looking forward to the ride!“

After the cancellation of their European tour, Purson recently announced the postponement of their upcoming new record “Desire’s Magic Theatre“. Originally set for a release on March 25h, their second full-length attempt will be out April 29th via Spinefarm Records. Purson 2016“Desire’s Magic Theatre has turned out to be everything I’d imagined and more,” said singer, guitarist, and songwriter Rosalie Cunningham. “My world has been so consumed by it that I’ve barely been able to reflect on what it has become: a technicolour variety show, a playful display of the musical whims only briefly hinted at in our previous work; a psychedelic rock opera dedicated to our good friends Sarge Pepper and Zig Stardust.”

Additonally, Purson have debuted the new song “The Window Cleaner,” via Brooklyn Vegan/Invisible Oranges. You can listen to it here and here.

Miss Cunningham has quite the beguiling voice. The song (and album) is super trippy, slightly doomy, a little psychedelic, and totally atmospheric, with the requisite ’70s vibe…. just as Purson fans have come to expect and love from the British band. Purson just wrapped a U.S. tour with Ghost. They will next hit the road with The Sword. Check out below for all confirmed dates.

Due to as of yet unnamed circumstances, UK-based five-piece Purson has to postpone their recently announced tour dates in continental Europe that were set for April. Yesterday, the band published the following statement on their official Facebook page: “We’ve unfortunately had to postpone the European dates of the upcoming tour. All the UK dates remain as they were, with the addition of Southend. Do not fear, we will be back on the continent soon enough! Please share this updated poster for anyone who has yet to buy their tickets!”

A clear deja-vu to anyone who was hoping to see the stellar sound machine live on their short-lived road encounter alongside Swedish Rockers Spiritual Beggars in 2013. Back then, Purson became victim of some shady garage employes – to say the least – and after just half of the originally planned eight shows, forced to return to British shores.

Apart from the Desire’s Magic Theatre European Tour, Purson will return to the US in the end of April. Please check below for all confirmed or remaining dates!

After reuniting almost four years ago, the one of the greatest bands in music history and one of the founders of the metal genre, BLACK SABBATH now announce ther farewell tour.

Black SabbathYoung, probably innocent & still the original four-piece

It’s the Beginning of THE END.

It started nearly five decades ago with a crack of thunder, a distant bell ringing and then that monstrous riff that shook the earth.  The heaviest rock sound ever heard.

In that moment Heavy Metal was born, created by a young band from Birmingham, England barely out of their teens.

Now it ENDS, the final tour by the greatest Metal Band of all time, BLACK SABBATH.  Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler close the final chapter in the final volume of the incredible BLACK SABBATH story.

BLACK SABBATH’s farewell tour, THE END, begins on January 20, 2016 and it promises to surpass all previous tours with their most mesmerizing production ever.

When this tour concludes, it will truly be THE END,

THE END of one of most legendary bands in Rock ’n Roll history…
