IN SOLITUDE – Call It Quits

The following announcement has just been posted via the official band Facebook page, calling it quits after 13 years and countless shows alongside legendary acts like THE DEVIL’S BLOOD in 2011 and playing a full European Headlining tour in 2014 with en route support by the recently re-formed and re-named BEASTMILK.

In Solitude“Dear friends. It is with great sadness that we inform you that we have chosen to end In Solitude here.

This is something that’s been taking shape for a long time and suddenly the day came when we had to evaluate our positions in life and find a solution.

The reasons for our departure are not hostile in any sense and our love for each other and the music is stronger than ever before. But it is with respect for that music and that love between us that we choose to end it at this point.

Changes in our personal lives demanded that we treated this as carefully as we could and with our deepest respect and reverence for all personal feelings, and for the aim of our journey.

This has been one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make and we’ve had to investigate every inch of our beings in order to make this right. In Solitude has been the center of our lives for 13 years and we’ve invested everything we have in this and to make this decision was to rip us up by ours roots and make us re-evaluate our entire lives and our future.

As the final words fell in our concluding agreement, we looked back and saw with new eyes the magnitude of our brotherhood and the things that were carried through because of it. Our trust, our love, our shared obligation. The truth of the hand and the truth of the word to disperse the bounds between us and to diverge the shore for us follow. How it gave us the width of the world and the means to share it and store it together. All that was in it and all that was taken from it. And all the things that now shall pass without our collective notice. We saw with new eyes how clarity entered in stagelight and moonlight and sunlight and darkness and landed us finally over and over in that inexplicable mystery of beauty that we’ll share as ours forever. If there was ever an accomplishment in what we did, it was the merging of the five of us in unity and the things that came as everything grew because of it. Not a single second was spared in these 13 years, and we’ll never ask for any of them back. We spent everything in our world on this and got more than everything back.

We want to thank all our closest brothers and sisters for being there and standing by our side the whole way through. Your love, support and hard work will never be forgotten and your presence have realized this band and enriched our lives in ways you’ll never understand. You are all truly the geniuses who shall change the course of the world. You know who you are. And we’ll always admire you for that.

Last, but most importantly. We thank all of you for being there. In the crowds, in front of the stereos and in our hearts. Without you, this strange and wonderful dream would never have happened. The impact of your support can never be put in words and the outcome of our lives will always be in debt to you for what you gave us. As much as we were In Solitude, you were as well.

We know that this will come as a shocking surprise for many of you. And we hope you understand that we must follow our hearts in order to stay true to what In Solitude is and what that entails.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you forever.

/Pelle, Uno, Gotte, Nicke and Henke”

The ten tracks of »Blues Pills« will also feature a cover version of the CHUBBY CHECKER classic ‘Gypsy’.

“It’s a song everyone in the band liked and we used to play it on our soundcheck. Slowly it worked itself into our set list, and now it’s going to be on our debut album as well. Back in the days lots of bands covered each other to honor the other artist, and they did it with their own touch on it. Some examples are, JIMI HENDRIX ‘All Along the Watchtower’, JANIS JOPLIN ‘Tell Mama’, ‘Summertime’ and ‘Ball and Chain’, or JOE COCKER ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’, everyone was doing it with the right reason. For us, we want to honor CHUBBY CHECKER and also bring it back to life by doing the cover version the BLUES PILLS way. Hopefully people like both versions and, yeah, it’s just a killer tune.“ – BLUES PILLS

»Blues Pills« Tracklist:
01. High Class Woman
02. Ain’t No Change
03. Jupiter
04. Black Smoke
05. River
06. No Hope Left For Me

08. Astralplane
09. Gypsy (CHUBBY CHECKER cover)
10. Little Sun

The cover art (as seen in the tour poster) was created by legendary artist Marijke Koger-Dunham (THE BEATLES, CREAM).

Commented the band: „The artwork is by the incredible artist Marijke Koger-Dunham. She painted it sometime in the late 60ies, and because we were looking for some 60ies inspired artwork, we thought “what could be better?” For us, it is a representation of the balance of life, as shown in all the symbolism of natural dualities such as darkness and light, sun and moon, life and death, etc. It shows how opposite forces are interconnected and compliment each other to form a whole. Besides that, it just looks absolutely amazing!“

THE VINTAGE CARAVAN – Riding The Nightliner Through A Snowstorm, With HE-MAN!

 – Yorck Segatz for Psychorizon –

Sometimes doing Interview with touring bands will lead to what? Deep, meaningful conversation, consuming amounts of booze beyond believe or just good clean fun! As Icelandic Classic Rock trio THE VINTAGE CARAVAN were en route of the “Rock Revelation Tour 2014”, alongside labelmates GRAND MAGUS, one of their trips took them to the heart of the German Metal scene, right in the centre of the Ruhr-area. Facing a completely SOLD OUT venue, TuRock, Essen that is, vocalist&guitarist Óskar Logi Ágústsson and bassplayer Alexander Örn Númason found themselves on the stairway to backstage heaven (sorry, couldn’t help it!), where they spent quite some time trying to figure out how to put together one of He-Mans rubber companions and not to forget doing an Interview. While sticksman Guðjón Reynisson reportedly was taking an inside-lesson on German culture, Óskar and Alex were taking a Q&A, which couldn’t be used in full due to the recoding being pretty much noise – to make a long story shot(er), here now is the mailer done afterwards – FINALLY!

For the average Metalhead, Iceland is just known as „Solstafir-Country“… Tell me about Iceland and the music scene in general.

The Icelandic music scene is very fertile and active, it consist mainly on artsy pop but the rock scene is very strong in our Sólstafir country. The down side of being a band there is mainly costs regarding flying, lack of venues do to hotels being built down town and all the elfs that we have to battle before performing live, they do not approve.

The Vintage Caravan_IVThe clueless caravan

What is it like to grow up in Iceland? How much emphasis is put on musical education?

For me growing up in Iceland was absolutely wonderful. Beautiful landscapes and great people. I don’t know anything else, so yeah.

Have you ever considered doing Icelandic vocals?

Nah not really, I just don’t think it fits the music we make, could sound kind of cheesy.

Would you say that your music includes Icelandic roots or are you more influenced by your own idols/favourite bands?

Everything we see, we experience and feel influences our music. Surely there are icelandic elements in our music, we are always trying something new for us. Best example of the Icelandic landscape influencing our music is in the track “Winterland” on Voyage, i wrote that while we were driving to a gig out in the country, and in the blink of an eye we were inside a snowstorm.

How did you meet each other and how did you form the band?

Me and gaui have known each other for 10 years now and have been playing together since we were twelve, so eight years. I asked him a few times to join the band when I was 9 or ten but he had a school band that he was in so he had no time for the ginger kid. but at age 12 he finally gave in haha. We have been trough a lot, especially for our young age. In 2009 we came in third place in the icelandic battle of the bands (Músíktilraunir) and I received an award for my guitar work, after that (then aged 14) we went on a roll and shortly became on of the most active live bands in Iceland, within Iceland ofc.

The Vintage CaravanTrio in full

Is playing in the band a full-time job?

You could say that yeah, in January we decided to move to Denmark, after our march tour, to be closer to the scene. So yeah this is a full-time job for us, which is a dream come true.

How did you get to play two sets at Roadburn this year and how did you choose the set-lists?

Let’s just say Guðjón is very persuasive! Haha, no, we had been booked for the festival the month before being signed, Walter Roadburn helped us a lot with that. then a month before performing at the festival Mikael Akerfeldt chose us to play at his curated night, he apparently loved the album, which was really amazing for us, really meant a lot. For Mikael’s set we did a proggy’er set with more emphasis on improvising, and the other set, late on the saturday evening we did more of an up tempo party set. It really is a wonderful festival.

The Vintage Caravan_VWinner smile of two very accomplished lads!

What does MARSWATT stand for?

It’s a secret, only to be relived when all the planets are aligned and Carrot Top clicks his heels three times.

Do you have any interesting/unusual hobbies?

Alex skates a lot, I love to sleep, Guðjón plays real life call of duty when drunk with a wooden stick.

How do you spend your spare time on tour?

Kidding around, taking a walk in the city we are in, sleep/resting, watching movies in the nightliner, waiting and eating. That kinda sums it up, haha!

What are your plans for the future? I heard you would like to move to the European mainland.

We are going to keep living here in Sonderborg, Denmark the rest of the year. We have been writing a lot lately, we have a lot of festivals and tour dates coming up, a tour in october will be announced soon. Then going home for christmas and spending january and february recording our album. the plan is rigging up our stuff and record in an old farm out in the icelandic country side, should be really interesting. Please check out our facebook and our album, Voyage. Cheers brothers and sisters!

THE DEVIL’S BLOOD – Release Ritual

On 11 – 11 – 11 I acquired two tokens of entry for the ritual on 12 – 11 – 11, conceiving the numbers 11 and 12. Entering the unholy halls of Club TuRock, infamous for it’s atmosphere.

None other than the Release of “The Thousandfold Epicentre”, the latest creation of THE DEVIL’S BLOOD shall be praised on this very night. Summoned devotees fill the place before passing the doorway, where inside all is crowded.

First to step upon the stage are the young yet convincingly furious IN SOLITUDE. This gathering of Swedish souls does not only leave – burnt – ashes, but far more do they share an altar with tonights protagonists. Ritual blood in their vocalists face and a fox on his shoulders complete the picture. Some of those present seem to have come here but for the opening act, making the temperature rise ever so high. Like a force of nature is not only the performance of IN SOLITUDE: Their sound appears much like a rough and dirty landescape with the feedback of the air. The beauty of the band’s second output “The World. The Flesh. The Devil” might get lost to a certain extent. One should consider listening to theirs tunes on records, be it vinyl or any other kind!

Setlist IN SOLITUDE

“The World, The Flesh, The Devil”

“We Were Never Here”

“Demons”

“To Her Darkness”

“Poisoned, Blessed and Burned”

“Witches Sabbath”

A short interlude of stage recreation marks the nearing appearance of the Ritual Master (S.L.), the Siren (F.) and their entourage. After the disillusionment which the Pre-Release Ritual at Hammer Of Doom Festival some two weeks before, became for me, this would become a memorable night for many reasons. Nothing compares to a club show and this venue is just perfect for both band and audience. Although I miss some of the early tunes like “The Graveyard Shuffle”, finally the new ones seem to get to me.

Even if not everyone around enjoys this as much as I do, those who call themselves “fans” will not regret a second of it. The action onstage is modest as ever, still inviting no too many to join this: Hands and heads are rushing to the sky, bodies in motion and the air seems to burn.

Calling it a “Ritual” raises expectations to the unexpected, still the evening has a predetermined sequence, interrupted only by some jam parts here and there. At least the Siren herself kneels infront of the altar as her voice is not needed in those parts. And not to forget the praising hands in position for minutes and minutes to come, one only keeps up to this if truly convinced!

Setlist THE DEVIL’S BLOOD

(Intro)

“Unending Singularity”

“On The Wings Of Gloria”

“River of Gold”

“Fire Burning”

“The Thousandfold Epicentre”

“House of 10,000 Voices”

“Die The Death”

“The Heavens Cry Out For The Devil’s Blood”

“Rake Your Nails Across the Firmament”

“She”

“Voodoo Dust”

“The Madness of Serpents”

“Christ or Cocaine”
